Fellow Seminoles:
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the National
Pan-Hellenic Council of The Florida State University. This council consists of eight predominantly African-American fraternities and sororities. These organizations are committed to scholarship, community service, and cultural enrichment. The purpose of the National Pan-Hellenic Council is to create and maintain high standards in the life of fraternities and sororities and to perpetuate constructive fraternity and sorority relationships. Additionally, the council fosters an understanding of the structure and method of operation among the affiliate organizations, addresses, coordinates, and develops action strategies on matters of mutual concern to the affiliate organizations, and acts as a conduit for such action plans that may be developed.
The representatives at the National Pan-Hellenic Council of The Florida State University recognize the need for the coordination of activities of intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternities and sororities. The chapter assists the university administration in attaining its educational objectives and maintaining Greek life and inter-Greek relationships. The chapter also acts as a catalyst for member organizations on matters of interest to the University and Greek community, and strives to improve communication between the member organizations.
Most NPHC groups encourage men and women to observe their members and educate themselves on the history and philosophies of each group. There will be many activities throughout the year sponsored by the groups. NPHC fraternity and sorority members at FSU are active leaders and participate in many campus-wide activities. Once a man or woman identifies the group he or she would like to belong to, he or she should attend a social or interest meeting sponsored by the group. Membership intake is the process by which members are inducted to fraternities and sororities. Women attend a social, which is a formal introduction to a sorority. Interested women are able to meet the members and learn more about the sorority’s history, ideas, and membership requirements. Men attend an interest meeting, which is a formal introduction to a fraternity. Interested men meet the fraternity’s members and learn more about the organization. If you are interested in a particular organization, please do not hesitate to contact the President of the organization or the office of the National Pan-Hellenic Council at Florida State University.
